You will have a full time job which will take precedence, along with many other duties and responsibilities ahead of your educational goals. The classes you'll attend will be on your own time, other than duty or times you're expected to be present for Army matters(remember in the military you're on duty 24/7). Classes are usually held 2 nights a week, Mon&Wed or Tue&Thurs, for about 3-4 hrs. Since your class time is so limited, 90% of your school work will be done on your time between classes. You'll probably take the course (above schedule) for 6-9 months, and after successful completion you'll get 3 Semester Hours of credits. Also subjects are offered as available or if an instructor is available. Thus you may go several months before any courses you need are available. During all this time you have to meet your military obligations. Can it be done - Yes, it is possible, but it takes a strong will and determination & I highly doubt if you'll get your degree in your first, second, or third enlistments, in other words plan to make the Army a 20 year career. Also, there are several different education programs and financial plans and even with one giving 100% tuition, you still have to pay for your books along with other course materials. I urge you to get all the facts, then consider everything, plus and minus, before you enlist. "I prefer the sign 'No Entrance' to one that says 'No Exit' ". Whatever your choice, Good Luck! Thank God my daughter didn't join the military to pay for her Nursing degree. She has loans to repay but she's here and not in Iraq like so many of her friends. If you select a career that has a good income potential you can repay those student loans do not join the military unless you are certain it's the right thing for you. I served 22 years and it is very easy if you provide the education office with the proper paper work, I never had a problem getting reimbursed.
